Janet Sleeper Frostad

Today
you stirred
my mind a witch
with a wand provoking
a whirl of green murky water
spinning seaweed silk
and krill rich enough
to feed a whale
conjure a mermaid
lure a bride from her
honeymoon to the bottom
of the deep dark sea
this rogue wave advanced without plan or pardon
swallowed houses and pigeons coops
pulled children from schools
turnips from the ground
lovers out of love and laid them
on this paper uninvited and unexpected
as the man who wandered in today
from the street and said to our
little group of strangers
I don’t know you
but I love you
